Bird’s Eye View

A bird's-eye view is an elevated view of an object or location from a very steep viewing angle, creating a perspective as if the observer were a bird in flight looking downwards. This viewpoint can help see things with a different perspective changing one’s perspectives and perceptions. There are so many benefits to taking this view. Whatever our circumstances, however complex and challenging, a fresh perspective will always help us take the next step. To be 100% objective is impossible; our perceptual position will always be colored by our judgments, opinions, expectations, biases, hopes, and fears. Self-awareness is recognizing the internal factors that distort our perception of reality. Key point: Acknowledging that our perceptions are being colored in invisible ways is an act of courage and shows humility. In my own life, I have learned the art and importance of embracing this view and the loss of not taking the view. When things seem a bit overwhelming, I learned to “step back and get a better perspective” or to “emotionally distance myself” from the issue at hand. Common phrases like “See the forest for the trees” also allude to this distancing. When too engaged in an emotional roller-coaster, one cannot accurately judge the situation. What would I benefit from seeing differently? A fresh perspective can often help you make healthier choices and improve decision-making. It can also increase and improve your overall quality of life. A Bird's Eye view also speaks to all the possibilities and potential you may not see otherwise on ground level.
